Remington Golden Saber .45 ACP 230 gr JHP SIM-TEST w/denim

Simple penetration and expansion test of the Remington Golden Saber, .45 ACP 230 grain hollowpoint, using a diluted form of SIM-TEST Ballistic Testing Media. This format is comparable to ballistic gel, and includes four layers of denim. Video includes brief overview of the cartridge, recoil shots, and one shot test. Post-shot evaluation shows bullet path through the block, average diameter, and retained weight. Test gun was a Colt 1911 Government, 5" barrel. Advertised muzzle velocity is 875 fps, my 5-shot average was 860 fps.

VERY IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING AMMO TESTS ON THIS CHANNEL:

Early on, I used wetpack for ammo testing, with or without denim. Beginning in 2011 I use SIM-TEST calibrated to ballistic gel specs plus 4 layers of denim. The denim is an IWBA standard simulating the density of heavy clothing. Please understand that these techniques are merely representations to indicate possible ballistics; they are not intended to replicate real-world street results. Even by adding bone, additional clothing, etc., there are just too many factors involved in a self-defense scenario to offer a 100% degree of accuracy when compared to street results. @tnoutdoors9 I was sure hoping you could test some other 45 ACP loads such as the Grizzly Xtreme 175 grain +P JHP. I saw andreleger2001's video and wondered how it would look in the SIM-TEST media. Maybe of you can get your hands on the beast you might be able to do some 44 magnum tests. I know hickok45 might be happy to loan you one.

Bullet fragmentation is at the heart of the 357 magnum's street reputation.

I have no idea why it's suddenly considered a failure for a bullet to fragment as long as it penetrates to the intended depth, and makes a reasonably good cavity.

@tnoutdoors9 I think it would be interesting to use this test medium you have to compare .45 FMJ with JHP rounds, just for the heck of it. I'd be interested in seeing what the wound channel from an FMJ looks like.
