I think I'm going to do stuff like this where I upload certain parts from our podcast that I think are really interesting and could open discussion.

This is from #6: The Podcast Rises. I bring up an article talking about how the PS Vita may fail because it is not (at this moment) doing well to attract the casual market and Bret brings some interesting insight.

  • i would never buy a phone for a game just dosent feel right

  • Even if I were a casual gamer, I wouldn't buy an iPhone for gaming. That is completely ridiculous when there are consoles specifically for it. The DS is something I've seen take a hell of a lot of heat, and what it all boils down to is, a lot of people just don't like the idea of having to contend with two screens at once. But I can agree with RoushutsuRises in that, if Nintendo manages to implement GOOD games to an iPhone (i.e. from Playstation) I might consider buying one for it.

  • seems like all the little kids at the school I go to have a 3DS. I think you may have been incorrect.

  • I'm not into the Iphone. I feel like its easier to break in comparison to hand held game consoles (DS and PSP). Also I'm not really into very showy phones (since I think my cellphone should just be needed to text, call, check the time, and maybe surf the net) I think that hand held game consoles will always give you a better game experience. I'd rather have something specifically for games than something that can briefly delve me into some games but I'd get bored with the game quickly.

  • @ThisCakeIsAPie I actually agree with this. Even in my own country the Gameboy was everywhere, and the GBA and DS never recaptured that massive craze.

I think that it's more that battery technology has reached a peak, so portable consoles with graphics matching their home console counterparts have a much shorter battery life as a result.

And also the convenience of having an all-in-one device rather than several different devices.

  • To be honest, I thought the whole handheld craze died out with the Gameboy.

I remember seeing a Gameboy everywhere as a kid, and with every new generation it's sort of died out slowly like Advance, then DS, with PSP.

I'm not saying by any means that Gameboy is better, and I rather enjoy my DS. Just from my personal perspective I've just seen the novelty slowly die off with every new generation.

Feel free to disagree with me.

  • @HeavyBoomkinGuy Die is a bad choice of words. I was just trying to say that phones are become more of a go-to for portable gaming, and are now something that Nintendo and Sony will have a to compete with for new users. Droid and iOS phones already make up a large percent of the market, so people are more inclined now to just use phones for gaming. The hardcore is still there so these devices won't go away, but it's going to make it harder for new handhelds to penetrate the market.

  • they could make games for the vita on the psn for one dollar if they wanted to.(i.e. angry birds)

  • @CrazyCheeseMagee Hmm. I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

  • @IMMAKIMMI Funny since I saw some gramers complaining that the Vita appeals too much to casual gamers with touch screens and an upcoming Uncharted game with touchscreen controls that made the game easier, which is something that gramers don't like.

  • I'm a pretty casual gamer myself but I really want the Vita~
