Clackamas Cavalettes Dance Team from Clackamas High School in Oregon. This is the routine that won us 1st in STATE!!! [in the SHOW division] Danced to the song Hide and Seek, by Imogen Heap. This is Thursday night of state, the second round.

THE BRAINS OF THIS ROUTINE, a big thanks to:
Formations/transitions: Kurt Jull
Choreography: Stacey Silva and Brandy Guthery
and of course Sue Anne Williams and Jessica Elliott :)

Fun facts about the routine (in place of annotations):
-29 dancers on the floor at any given time
-Pictures on the panels are real - from a dancer's sister (& her husband)
-anywhere from 1 to 3 girls would hide behind a panel
-the swiveling panels had hinged doors on one side, allowing us to change colors from blue to purple to pink
-the song, as we interpreted it for our routine, was about a break up and going through the stages of sadness, grief, anger and finally indifference - we don't need him anymore!

Hope you enjoy watching the dance as much as we enjoyed performing it :)

  • Obviously, this is beautiful, but I can't help but feel that you won not only because of your talent. You have an enormous, interactive set, a large cast, and grandiose stage dimensions. Not to mention, you're dancing to one of the most well-loved and overused songs in the dance world. My school's dance team got into nationals with a six-person, student-choreographed dance to a metal song. So, great job, but if you're going to enter a similar dance in state again, consider a show choir comp.

  • @chidragon9 Well thank you, i guess. You should know though that the other teams we were competing against in our division had the same enourmous floor mats and big props, whatever went along with their theme. And this was State 2007, i don't know that Hide and Seek was overused at the time. And why would we enter a show choir competition if we're not singing....? Lol.

  • That was really beautiful and in time! But am I the only one that noticed there was no equipment? What's a color guard with no equipment? A dance team?

  • @iheartguard09 haha thank you! and well, we are a dance team... lol

  • Usually when there are so many dancers they are off sync and mess up a lot. But these girls performed proving they knew exactly what they were doing. And even though there are so many you noticed they all danced their hardest. They didn't slack just because no one would notice. The unity is amazing... and in groups like these there is no fame to one dancer. It's the message and the unity that makes it so different and wonderful. It's the art.

Amazing job, one of my favorites.

  • Almost 5 years later and this choreography is still touching. Amazing work, and great use and concept of the props. I really loved everything about this piece. I just had to comment on it (again) in case I already commented a long time ago. Once again, great job!!

  • Boss

  • I remember watching this routine with my team at state, and being absolutely amazed. I had never heard the song before, and was kind of entranced by how pretty it was. Clackamas has always had such beautiful, unique routines, along with beautiful dancers and choreography. Good job ladies, you definitely deserved first :) This routine still gives me chills 4 years later!

  • i like the dancing, but i find the set a little distracting...

  • This was designed by Kurt Jull, He has been involved with drum corps and guard his entire life. Madison Scouts design 94-2000, Every-Body Winterguard founder, Seattle Cascades, Yokohama Inspires, etc.

  • Beautiful! But one question, how did you get the boards to move/swivel around??

  • I do not like this at all. I don't think this is quality dance, the props are distracting and it wasn't entertaining.

  • Ok, I know I just posted but I want to say. I'm a trumpet player, a music teacher, and a drum and bugle corps guy. I've never really been into this stuff. And I've watched this over and over. It makes me cry. Who designed and choreographed this? This is just amazing.

  • this is the best visual rendition I've seen of this tune on the web or anywhere for that matter. absolutely brilliant
