Matrix: System Anomally

Axel needs to infiltrate the Matrix Mainframe to insert some code. The whole rebellion hinges on his success.

This short film is a spin-off of the matrix, not quite a remake, It is based around characters on the Vigilant, a minor ship that goes largely unmentioned in the feature films. The machines have put up a firewall blocking the rebels from entering the matrix, so now it is up to Axel to fight his way into the matrix mainframe and crash the firewall.

I made this short film as my main production assignment for year 12 Media Studies, it was completed in August 2007.

IN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION ABOUT HOW I DID THE PHONEBOOTH EFFECT:
Well, first of all we filmed the phonebooth, using fishing line to hold up the phone and then drop it. After that we filmed the actors in front of a blue screen doing the "disappearing into the phone" action. Once I had both bits of footage I put them into Shake (a digital effects compositing program). In Shake I took out the blue key and used distortion/opacity filters on the actors. Then I made the filters decrease in strength over time, so the distortion/ripple became less apparent and the actor because less opaque. Then I just exported it out of Shake and into Final Cut Pro.

great job! This was a great movie, the only problem, as you probably have heard, are the punches, its not that it doesn't look like its hitting its just the actors look a little to held back, now you may accidentally get hit once, but that is why you rehearse so it doesn't happen. Also try to unstiff your body and show a little more emotion. But everything else was pure art! Great job!
