Since this might be the last time I Fold until God knows when, I might as well make a small Folding@Home Update.

I finally got the Console GPU3 BETA Clients up and running stable. The reason they were running so slow at first was because it seems that the -advmethods flag makes the client download certain projects that take just as long to process as it would for an SMP project. But if they are completed they add a very nice and juicy 7000+ points to your rank, which is very nice. For now though, I'm just going to let it work on Peptide projects.

Also, I found one MAJOR drawback about my ASUS TOP GTX 460's: They produce a VERY annoying coil whine! Although this is normal for the cards, it is unacceptable for running the clients 24/7. Either I will only fold for a few hours, or I will have to keep the overclocks to a conservative level. Either way, at least the clocks are stable for now.

If you want computer specs, just ask!

  • Nice update I cant stand my room that cold unless its a last ditch effort for suicide runs. Normally my room is around 70F-76F and I here you on whine it sucks nothing you can do. Well you can do some stuff to quiet them but I wouldn't do it. One of the reasons I went with the case over tech station for when I am sleeping.

  • @RickArter : I don't mind the cold that much. I turned the clocks down since I decided to add one of my 9800GTX+'s back into my system for folding and PhysX. Running at 850/1700/2100 provides a very nice balance between temps, noise, and stability.

So far, HFM is showing a predicted total of over 33,000+ PPD. If all goes well and IF I can come back to school next semester I should be all set for folding as long as I can.
