@SeanOrange That strange, it let me change the difficulty the first time I was on the Normandy (right after the intro). Oh, thanks for tip on the ally medals, so far I have the ones for ash and wrex.

I started a second playthru and changed the difficulty to from veteran to hardcore at the beginning. Will I still get the achievement or will it not count?

you can do a second playthrough! wtf! if only i knew that months ago

LEROY JENKINS DIDNT MAKE IT!

Stop blowing into your mic. You really don't need it directly in front of your face.

Ah! No, you're right. I think changing it when you start the mission might still be okay.

*Sorry, from veteran to hardcore.

@RvBdude13 I gotcha. ;)
You're not even able to change it until you first land on your mission to Eden Prime, so if you did it right after that you're probably good. I'm not sure how long after that you can wait, but I suspect before you shoot anything. (Just guess.)
There's also a LOT of weirdness about how many secondary missions you need to complete for the Ally medals. The only way to get the one for Liara is to leave the Citadel AS SOON AS POSSIBLE by only doing the main missions.

When you start a second playthough, can you change your class and background?

Nope, that would defeat the point! I suppose it would be nice to have all that equipment and credits, but...

do u know if theres some way where even if u played mass effect 1 you can still choose to start completely new in number 2? cuz i dont want my mass effect 1 career to affect anything in mass effect 2. do u also get to choose to be a new character instead of the one i played in mass effect 1?

Probably the "New Game" option. Comes standard with most games, I hear! :p
You need not worry about it -- if it's anything like starting a second playthrough on ME1, then you will have to very deliberately choose to begin off of a previous save. I don't think they'll be sneaky and load a save file for ME1 without asking you first.
