  • I wonder if this would work on some of those old 20-plus track compilation albums, like the ones K-Tel produced in the 70s. I wouldn't be confident that the sensor would be able to cope with the very thin, sometimes almost invisible, space in between each track.

  • You're right... I believe there is a warning in the instructions that the track might not be scanned correctly if it is too thin / short.

  • I just repaired my model of this today - including making new hinges for the dust flap/door thing.

It's now taken its place with the other components of my Sony Precise system. I see you have another Sony front loader - do you collect Sony stuff?

  • Well, yes and no. I collect phonographs as you can see from my videos. ...but when I saw these front loaders, I fell in love with them. So, it's pretty neat to play my 33's on these machines.

I recently sold this machine and bought a Sony PS-FL99. So, stay tuned for a video of that. :-)

  • ...but I definatly am A Sony brand guy. If I can afford to buy Sony I always will.

  • It looks as if the top cover has been remonved.

  • LOL, yes it has been. I'm showing the mechanics of the machine. (as explained in the "info" section)

  • i payed £550 EACH for 2 technics 1210 mk5g decks and they dont have this track skip function ,i bet this was a top end record deck back in the day, i feel robbed.

  • Hey man i recently bought one of these but it skips pretty bad .... do you know how to adjust the tracking force ?

  • that's friggin awesome!

  • i imagined that there might be a turntable that could optically scan for tracks. glad it exists.

  • @bigbadwolf2007 More trouble than they're worth. The common cartridges for those are for shit from the get. And no, you can't properly align the cartridge on an S arm, no matter how hard you try. I have a '64 GE that tracks better.

The sound from linear tracking is too dry. I know plenty who owned them. Also, the tracking response is carved in stone: "Thou shalt have no other turntables before me". So, if the LP was played elsewhere, you can tell.

Yes, I know how a 'biscuit' becomes a 'slab'.

  • @knoxunflower1 So why do hate linear tracking turntables?Do you prefer turntables with s-shaped tonearms? Not me all you get is inner and outer groove distortion and they are a pain in the but to setup.I have a technics sl-l20 linear tracking turntable , it's so easy all I have to do is put a record on the platter, select the the speed and the size and hit start , so easy. Also did you know that record albums are cut in a straight line so that's how you play them.

  • @TheNotoriousBILL Assuming that this unit's tonearm drive is the same as other Sony linear-trackers, there's a small belt on the tonearm motor than needs replacing (accessed from underneath). Then the black bar (rail) should be cleaned (cotton swabs & alcohol work fine). Finally, work the tonearm back & forth a few times w/ the transport buttons. Worked fine on my PS-LX510, LX520 & FL-7 II (most recent acquisition). The little belts can be had @ turntableneedles(dot).com for about three bucks.

  • Linear tracking. Ugh. Hate 'em....

  • Hey, just wondering if you might be able to offer some knowledge. I have one of these turntables kicking around, but there is a problem with the tone arm. I can use the arm transport and the track selection works, but when it starts playing, the arm doesn;tmove at the black bar at the back, the silver piece connecting the stylus to the black piece with the led moves, but the large black piece doesn't follow. Any help or advice would be great

  • My record player has got the same tonearm.
