The Fargo Nativity PTO Board examined the condition of the 20+-year-old outdoor playground equipment and assessed that the equipment has exceeded its lifespan and is in need of replacement. Dedicated to the total education of their students, the Nativity PTO Board authorized the funding and replacement of its primary play structure. On May 28, 2009 - ten months after its installation - the playground structure and its space was dedicated to Carol and Gordy Johansen.
Ceremonial ribbon was cut by family members of Carol and Gordy, as well as representatives from each of the Nativity elementary classes. Following the ribbon-cutting and dedication, it was announced that the playground renovation would gain momentum as the PTO Board authorized a Phase II advancement/renovation of the remaining playground space behind Nativity Elementary School.
