The Thunderhead Express lift is a Doppelmayr high speed quad. It services Thunderhead Peak.

The lift itself was constructed in 1997, replacing two older lifts: a Yan triple chairlift called Arrowhead, and a double chairlift called Thunderhead. The Thunderhead Express lift was probably necessary because of the fact that the Miner Denver built Thunderhead lift was built in 1965 to open Thunderhead Peak, and was now more than 30 years old.

This lift has 117 chairs and 18 towers. The paint scheme you see in this video, gray with a red stripe, is the 2009 paint scheme. The original paint scheme used from 1997 to 2009 was a dark blue scheme. The 2009 repainting was to ensure that the lift matched up with the Storm Peak Express, Sundown Express, Sunshine Express, and Christie Peak Express lifts.

  • Wow! What time of year and what day of the week was this? That is a huge line!!

  • @curtisjb1983 I filmed this video on the Saturday of President's Day Weekend. The line is normally not as long as this, but this was a day that the gondola was closed because of wind.

  • @TimeQueenofRome What a relief. I am heading there this coming Sat through Monday and I was afraid I would be wasting a lot of time waiting in lines. Thanks for the response.
