I was fortunate enough to be playing piano in a band called The Reuven Kall Show in the late 1970's and we backed Jewel Akens. Jewel was also singing with the Coaster's who we also backed.

Later.... Jewel chose me to play keyboard on a single he was recording.

I was only 19 years old then. Jewel was a true professional in the studio to work with and a great entertainer and person in general on stage... It was an honor to work with him!

Sadly, Jewel Akens died March 1st 2013, from complications of back surgery. Great entertainer. R. I. P.

One of the reasons that this song was a hit is because at the time it was written, it was presented to the group that Jewel Akens was performing with. As a group, they turned it down because they thought it was too corny. Mr. Akens took the song and sang it as a solo act. Good move on his part. R.I.P.
