Unit 2 - long and short u

1. /u:/ is a long sound. Make lips into a tunnel shape. Tongue is a long way back in mouth.

+ After:
1 - oo - too, bamboo
2 - ou - group, soup
3 - oe - shoe,
4 - u - music, tuna
5 - ue - blue, clue
6 - ew - chew, gewgaw
7 - wo - two

+ when it is u or ew, there is often a /j/ sound before the /u:/
music, new,

+ Saying phrases:
. me too
. work in groups
. new shoes
. red and blue
. listen to the music
. forty-two
. fruit juice

2. /U/ is a short sound. Tongue is not so far back as for /u:/.

+ /U/ is often sound after
1 - u - full, beautiful, sugar
2 - oo - book
3 - ou - would, should

+ Other word with /U/
