I break down this amazing dance by Kenny Ortega Featured in Newsies! Step by Step! If you get lost Just freestyle and have fun :) NOTE: I know i missed the punch diagonally part after the pounding fists but here is the entire thing broken down in text as well
- Arms fold over upperbody as upperbody turns to the left
- Arms still folded, turn upperbody to the right
- Again, arms still folded, face forward
- "Shuffle-hop" (yes, an invented term) forward once
- Unfold arms in a swinging manner and place hands level with face in fists
- After a brief pause, lift chin up in the air
- Rotate whole body 90degrees to the right, right hand batting at the air
- Quick jump turn to the left 90degrees with an upper swing of the right arm (a "grand punch", let's call it)
- Hunch over with two quick jabs of the fists at the air in front of you. The order/sequence for this is 'right, left', therefore the jabs start with the right.
- As body straightens up again, right arm goes up so it's straight with the fist above your head.
- Two "shuffle-hops" forward with right arm up and fist slightly jabbing at the air above with each hop.
- After the hops, bring right arm down and back bent at the elbow, head following and looking down in that general direction.
- Bring both arms up over your head, hands connecting and face looking forward again.
- This will be better explained later, once I watch the sequence to get a better understanding, but for now: sort of shuffle-step, with arms swinging in a pendulum fashion to the left, then right, left, and then back to the right, but the arms close around the body and you lift off the ground in a 360 twirl.
- Land with legs slightly apart, right fist level with shoulder, left hand level with hips.
- Right fist lifts above head, descends as the left fist raises.
- Both hands punch downward to the left side.
- Punch down to the right with the right fist, left fist remaining where it had 'landed' on the previous move.
- Bring left fist over to re-connect with the right.
- Punch both fists upward to the left side.
- Pivot to the left with an elbow down to the left, hands clasped together
- Elbow to the right with a small step in that direction, hands still clasped
- Pause for one count
- Unclasp hands and bring left elbow sharply down, right arm remaining to the right.
- Right handed upward cross punch to the left
- Another right handed upward cross punch to the left, but doing an "about-face" at the same time that ends in a right kick.
- I will have to better explain this step as well, but hear is what I have for you right now. Turn and drop to the ground, with body flat and chest to the ground (a push-up stance, as I call it). Cross your right foot over your left foot with your toe tapping the ground, then allow your body to pivot following the direction of your right foot by turning to the left. You will now be uplifted from the ground by your hands, but with your back towards the ground. (I think I'm missing a step in here)
- Stand up and turn to the left, chest-butting who is there. (if you're by yourself...just stand there...)
- Do an about face and do a 360 swing with whoever is there. (do a little spin by yourself if it's just you..)
- Lower to the ground, crouching.
- Rise and straighten
- Jump twice in place, walk a few paces and then freeze like one of the boys of Newsies!
