Hangman's Reel (also known as Le Reel du Pendu) is an ancient fiddle tune, that has versions in a number of traditions.

My fiddle is cross-tuned aeac#.

I have found my new favorite fiddler to listen to in Jean Carignan.

His bow work and energy are fantastic.

I have been working on Hangman's Reel for the last couple of weeks, and I can't play it anything like Jean, but I have really enjoyed playing around with it.

I hope you enjoy my version of Hangman's Reel as well.

  • Nice job! It's a good tune. I play for dancers now and thne and I think I'd like to learn that one. And use that tuning on my other fiddle so I don't have to retune. Haven't tinkered muc h with alternate tuneings as I read music and the scores for the retuned fiddle are written in regular tuning and sound in the other tuning which drives me crazy. Almost makes me dizzy to play one note and hear another. I suppose it takes a lot of practice.

  • @CUITKIN With this tune, be careful when playing for dancers, because it's crooked. There are an uneven number of beats. ;)

  • Are you using the Trowie tuning? AEAC#, i think.

  • @CUITKIN You are correct. It's tuned AEAC#. Good ear. :)

  • I had to stop by for another listen. I learned a simpler version of this reel, but would to learn this one. Really nice fiddlin.

  • @isabellanakahara Thanks.

  • awsome performance

  • Absolutely awesome fiddling (could probably do with the drum machine though.... sounds fantastic just on its own)

  • Spectacular playing; but could you do it sans the metronome/drum machine in the background? I've probably watched this video a few dozen times and I love it.

  • @isabellanakahara Thanks. :)
