I gotta say, despite the fact that I love Colm as a singer and performer, I really didn't think this was his best rendition. The hand movements were a distraction for me too. But oh well, even the greats have days where they even don't like up to their perfections.

To the person who wrote the description. I'm not absolutely sure of the location but it looks like the Royal Albert Hall in London. Also, having seen Les Mis 3 times in London's west end (their equiv. to Broadway in the U.S.) I have watched Colm age and from his physical appearance my guess would be that it was filmed in the early '90s (again, just a guess).
No matter where he sang it or when he did it, he will always be one of the theatre's greatest treasures. Thanks for posting the video.

I L O V E every single thing about his vocals! Thats remarkable in itself. I cant say that for any other voice on this planet. Every word, every vowel.....
