Four student Economists set out to determine whether the shortage of car parking places at La Trobe University is a case of market failure. This film project was part of their "Economics of Everyday Life" subject.

  • this is fantastic.

  • to be fair, this example misses the supply-side reasons that the market hasn't corrected the shortage, but is a great example of the demand-sdee ramifications and neg externalities which are probably overlooked by the uni.. In this example, the 'market' is a single entity; a university, so is a distinct case where 1 actor needs to change their behaviour (not a free-moving market).

    The required funding simply needs to be spent by the university, more parks, or more incentives to ride bikes/bus!
