Isle of Flowers - Part 2

"Ilha das Flores" by Jorge Furtado 1989. English Subtitles. Part 2. In my opinion, the best brazilian short.

Very well pointed my friend, this movie indeed has no point of view, but what i think that his tryng to say is that with globalization, and so much dependence on external markets, when something like a subsidy, (that many americans and europeans markets have), some regions(mainly on third world) that cant compete, just get poor and starve....

Subsidies are anti-ethical and bad to the economy, but we should not blame the failure of the poorest nations on rich nations' subsidies (that are bad for themselves, by the way - subsidies are always bad).
If this kind of thing was capable of blocking the development of others, how come the rich nations could get there in a world with so high import taxes? All import taxes on most poor nations are huge.
Poor nations are poor because they have no freedom, no civil liberties.

Thats in no way a true, lets take Brazil for example, where a democracy with much freedom, and bigger civil liberties then many first world countrys, and stil where a poor nation, because other countrys have huge protencionism policys

I'm not defending protectionism, let it be clear. Protectionism is anti-ethical and bad to the economy, not to mention stupid.

I'm just stating that it's not "other countries" protectionism that stops countries like Brazil to develop - okay, it would be easier without it, but that can not be used as an excuse.

It it was so, how come the much stronger protectionism practiced by poor nations did not stop today's rich nations to develop?

Its simple, rich nations dont need poor nations like poor nations need rich....
Poor nations need to import a lots of expensive items and technology to survive, but to get the money enougth to that they need to export a huge ammount of comodities, but with rich countrys protecionism they cant export comodities enougth to import high-tech items to develop, and so they become more bacwards...See my point of view?

I'm sorry, it seems youtube does not authorize links, I lost a comment.
I wrote before:
Where do you see any freedom in Brazil? Brazilian laws are strict and numerous, they try to control everything, even how you're supposed to sell bananas. Imagine then the labor laws... Government spending is simply huge, in a country that just can't bear it.

Search on google (I can't link it for you) the "heritage economic freedom index". It's an attempt to measure countries' economic freedom only.

Am a Brazilian, i know our laws are strict, but they are rarely used, here we have a lot of useless laws just like those you where mentioning, because no one obeys, not even the justice officers.
''Gpvernament spending is simply huge''
Thats the biggest true you ever said, but they dont spend on laber laws upkeep, they speend on a corruption frenzy, where more then bilions are stolen by high politicians.
An example of that will be olympics, they will stole all.
