Victor Guzman speaks about the Feed Us More Than Peanuts Campaign. This is a student movement in California, fighting for a long term, stable solution to funding public education, and to prevent a fluctuating budget from year to year based on if our economy is doing well or not. We need to include COLA (Cost of Living Adustments) included in the education budget, and more, to compensate for the prices of food and oil. In Rowland Unified School District, we have lost nurses, and the remaining nurses go to visit schools about half a day. Also, because of oil, groups that travel like sports teams and band will need to pay an extra transportation fees. Food prices at the cafeteria are going up. Fees to join clubs and activities are rising. Are only those with money allowed to participate? Can only those with money do activities that they love? Without proper increases in money alloted for education, a monetary divide develops in our public school system between the haves and have-nots. Education is supposed to be the great equalizer, but it will no longer be so if we do not stand up for students.
