You forget that this whole mess was caused by the Bush administration. You can't get through the biggest economic disaster since the Great Depression in just 2 years. At this time in the Reagan administration unemployment was up near 11% and he blamed Carter every day for 8 years. Reagan also built up the largest national debt that point.
