After a original idea from mowerofdoom...Proof of concept to reach the actual wave form from lamina stirling generator.
A smal spring used to prevent piston from colliding in the diaphragm is the only source of noise and
wave deformation. A better video will come with measurement of frequencies and voltage...
In "steady state" without spring the generator con be less noisy than the alcohol burner!!!

  • Very nice!

Interesting to see the effect of the spring on the waveform.

What do you think you will try next?

    Geoff. :-)

  • Thanks! I guess I will try to make the same device

with U-Shape tube in order to leave the flame in the same range, to bring the working piston in a vertical position with the option to "tune" the starting position (it is necessary anyway).

In an horizontal frame the torque induced by the magnet's weight increase dramaticaly the drag...

  • Very nice replication of mowerofdoom's earlier demonstration. Yes good proof of concept, looking forward to the next video with the additional technical parameters.

    Well done! regards -Mike

  • Thanks! I've been working on a new design that would let me change easely the diaphragm diametre but magnet's weight is a real issue: it increases the drag and moreover the "mass" is part of the equation of mouvement: it has to remain as low as possible.

  • @lecorfec I wonder if you could make the stroke short enough if you could have the coil moving around the magnet, like a loudspeaker. In fact maybe you could use a loudspeaker for the piston.

  • The stroke can be made much shorter but seems to be less powerfull. I guess a loudspeaker would work with small efficiency at 20 Hz even with 1 cm stroke!

I will try to build a device with your configuration (moving coil, fixed magnet).

    Thanks for your interest.

  • I agree with your findings. Others have suggested also mounting the coil in the piston and using a large magnet outside. This seems like a good idea too.

Keep up the good work!!! G.

  • Heya! Nice one!

Nice to see the scope images.

I had a lamina running without the steel wool. It may reduce the losses in airflow.

I want to put the magnet inside the piston, and wind the coil around the glass.

Good luck, I will watch your vids!

    Richard
