@BigFatHeretic dude i totally agree with u man, religion needs to be taught to in history classes infact children shud learn how humans have come with different religions to explain d universe and our existence, the so called holy books like d bible, quran or wateva may be extremely stupid and laughable but they r important books to study if sumone is interested in learning about d history of humanity and how in d past humans have interpreted the world

Huhh? Strange as an atheist in a korean private christian school I never expected comparitive religion. Maybe Richard influenced them.

I would favor teaching a history course on science and religion, about Galileo and the Inquisition, about the Scopes Trial, and in the course, it would discuss the details on what Creationism is about and the details on what Evolution is about and how they compare, or not compare, but Creationism should NEVER be taught in a science class. Forcing religious indoctrination on children is another form of child abuse.

Regarding Dawkin's proposal of greater emphasis on religious studies education in public schools, I think the atheists' main concern would be that such courses could be used for further indoctrination of students in favor of one particular faith, rather than for its intended purpose of introducing students to the wide pantheon of diverse religious beliefs.

The Bible is excellent literature. There is no question to that, but when religion tries to mention life in a factual based logic, thats when it fails.....
There was an especially interest story Myers tells in part 4, about a student who was physically sick because of the teaching of evolution. This is not a small matter, and is the first time I have heard major figures discuss it. Intense anxiety can certainly cause physical problems. Nausea is a very common one. Discovering that your beliefs are wrong is enormous, and can cause that type of anxiety. There should be therapy for religious who are making the move to rational thought.
