FFX -- How to Defeat Penance (without Zanmato)

It's a long procedure. Set aside one and half hours to complete it.

First, you need to have the following:
1) Break HP Limit Armours with auto-Haste and auto-Protect for Rikku (a must!!), and two other characters.
2) Celestial Weapons for Rikku, and two other characters, preferably with counterattacks (or it will take longer).
3) The ability to Mix: Trio of 9999 (I use 2x Gambler Spirits)
4) Buy 99 Al Bhed Potions, Potions, and Hi-Potions
5) Maximise all your stats to have 255 Attack, Defence, Agility and Accuracy.
Note: I have lousy luck (50+ to 60+), but I managed to defeat Penance nonetheless.

Main Strategy:
I assume you have managed to defeat the Dark Aeons bcos you have maximised your stats.
The ONLY strategy to defeat Penance is actually simple: QUICK HIT its arms all the way, sneaking in two to four attacks ONLY if both its arms are taken down. Once regrown, you have to hit the arms until all are destroyed before you do it again.
Warning: DO NOT BE GREEDY. The arms are your greatest enemy, not the body. The ARMS must be crushed BEFORE inflicting any hits at the body.

Very important:
You must sneak in all of the following when you first encounter Penance within 3 or 4 rounds while destroying its arms:
a) Cheer x5, b) Aim x3, c) Trio of 9999, d) Three Stars

THIS MEANS NOT HITTING THE BODY IF BOTH ARMS ARE DESTROYED. NO, DON'T HIT THE BODY YET IF YOUR PREPARATION ISN'T ENOUGH.

Cheer x5 allows you to survive each of its attack if you have 10k-20k HP, and is critical for the second part of the battle too. If you don't have high Luck like me, you have to sneak in Aim x3. Sneak in Trio of 9999 in the 2nd Round to heal all characters, and Three Stars is to bestow unlimited Quick Hits. You can spread them all out, but Cheer x3 and Trio of 9999 are necessary in the 1st or 2nd Round, or you won't survive its subsequent attacks.

Healing:
Most ppl forget one very important healing option: Al Bhed Potions. In the first half of the battle where everyone will be hit, Use Al Bhed Potion will heal everyone in one turn after Rikku's Trio of 9999. But of course if you have tons of Megalixirs to spare, by all means Quickpocket them, and you might have an extra turn to hit Penance with.

CRITICAL NOTE: ONLY HEAL AT THE VERY LAST TURN WHEN EVERYONE HAS QUICK HIT THE ARMS OR PENENCE ITSELF. LAST TURN. LAST TURN. NOTE YOUR ACTION GAUGE.

Second half of the battle is when it loses its bottom, now you need to SPARE TWO TURNS. TWO TURNS. TWO TURNS. One for healing, one for casting Dispel on the character hit. The good thing is that only one of your characters will be targeted, so you only need to Quickpocket a potion, or Hi-potion, to heal 9999, and still have enough to hit Penance one more time (see Video).

Another note:
DO NOT EVEN TRY TO CHANGE CHARACTER, OR ALLOW ANY OF YOUR 3 CHARACTERS TO DIE IN THE PROCESS!!! They already have the benefits of Cheers, Aims, and Trio of 9999, switching another character would mean certain death. Even if Rikku does not have a counterattack weapon, ENDURE while Penance hits her. AND ALWAYS HEAL WHEN IN DOUBT.

Extra Note:
I DON'T recommend using Overdrives, because it actually consumes more turns than your Quick Hits. I tried using and realize I can't even have adequate turns to hit the main body while I was destroying the arms. That's the beauty of Quick Hits bcos you can generate extra turns every round, while getting 99999s every time.

Last:
Have patience. Penance will fall if you follow the above carefully. BUT what you get in the end sucks, bcos you have little need of those Dark Matters and whatever Spheres at this late stage of the game anyway.

Easiest way to beat penance is by shooting it in the knee

Dont need more than 9999hp for this,Ultra nul all for the win.

Armour should be auto potion, auto haste, auto protect and 20% defense.

just gotta make sure to dispel the breaks as he's doing here.

Eccentrik and hotspurs works well too, since they stack
