If someone cannot tell that Britney is lip-syncing with the studio release on that 2004 VMA, but that she actually sings, along with a live accompanying musical band during the 2009 Circus Tour, then familiarity with the recording along with general listening abilities are questionable. Naturally, she could concentrate more on dancing at the 2004 VMAs, because she wasn't singing, unlike with her Circus!

The ignorant misconception about auto-tune is that the melody is already "programmed" in so that the singer could basically just lip-sync, but the right melody will automatically come out of the speakers: NO! auto-tune can only "slightly bend sung pitches to the nearest true semitone (to the exact pitch of the nearest tone in traditional equal temperament)" [quoted from auto-tune's Wiki article] So, she is already singing generally the right notes, but Auto-Tune makes her intonation "perfect"!

erm... musicians actually told me that she sings live... and they told she looks like she's lip-sync cause she uses auto-tune... but actually you can totally tell

yeah, I totally agree with you!!! I've been watching a lot of other performances of Radar, and even with the new remix and outfits, I still haven't seen a better, more hype and energetic performance of the song!!!!! and not just because I recorded the vid...:) the crowd was really hype too, so I guess she decided to have fun with it and give it all she had!!!!

totally agree with you though, looking at many of her earlier performances, she has indeed kinda lost her cool dance moves... just check out her performance of 'Toxic' at the NRJ Music Awards in '04 (watch?v=1WgZIW2Fp4g) and her 'I'm A Slave 4 U' performance for ABC (watch?v=x9YEWm8vQjk)
She definitely did not dance like that at this concert... but admit it, she still looks pretty HOT, especially considering the fact that she's had 2 kids and is 27!!!:) GO BRIT!!!!!!!
