Interestingly enough this actually has had the opposite effect of what was intended. The fact that the flood was recorded by so many other sources other than the bible makes it seem much more credible if blown way out of proportion by many today. Keep in mind that as far as the people at the time were concerned the whole world was that particular region.

To be intelligent is considered the privilege of modern people. However wide the realm of intellect becomes, it will always be impossible to enter the realm of spiritual composure only by means of intellect. The latter stands on a plane different from that of the former. Saint Honens admonition, "Return to the foolish self," teaches us this.

@frojoe2004 ahhh okay man, I hear ya. Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it

@Brew4Breakfast I believe the tone and language like "she eats the damn fruit." and "all because a silly ol snake tricked her into doing it... oh jeez." This kind of disrespectful language is pervasive in the video.
I entirely agree with your views, but people cherish these stories as a form of personal history and heritage. The way you present your arguments will close the ears to the minds you are trying to open.

@frojoe2004 in my experience, it becomes very hard to "politely" disagree with someone's religion without them getting the slightest bit offended, so that's why I came off rather blunt. I also wanted this to be a little more lively, than rather just a cold reading, which is why it prolly comes off as insulting. I did try to supply some scholarly information though, with the ziusudra story and scientific impossibilities. Would you mind explaining where you found it to be mocking? im honestly jw

We can disagree with Christians politely. If atheists show kindness, compassion, and love, and follows their actions with teachings of logic, reason, secularism and democracy, we may end up seeing a better, more tolerant world.
I feel this video serves to hurt that dream, and push people away from reason because of the off putting candor of the narrator.

The producer of this film seems bitter. Though I agree with his logic, he is not arguing logic. The objective science he claims to value is tainted with a lot of sarcasm, and a closed mind to the mentality of ancient human society. This seems to mock the idea of faith and superstition based beliefs, instead of argue against them using modern logic, science, and atheistic philosophies.
In my opinion, the producer ends out coming off as an ass, which negatively effects his cause.

@Shadowsilverlane jeez you sure have been pointing the finger at the back row a hell of a lot lately ..lol. Calling me a "douche bag" is respectful though right? i see. Part of being an agnostic for me is doubting and being skeptical of the Christian stories. If you want to be offended by that... so be it. If you choose not to be offended... great! But your right, respect is in order.

@Brew4Breakfast I think the hypocrisy started when the back row refused to respect the Christians' beliefs, because it seems to me that Atheists are usually crying out for the Christians to leave them alone and respect their belief in nothing. Its all we wanted from the beginning...not an agreement, just a little respect and humility.
Much of Jewish lore and mythology is adapted from Egyptian lore. They just replaced the multiple gods with humans, or objects. For example Nut (Sky/Heaven God) and Geb (Earth God) becomes Heaven and Earth.
Anyways, the narrator is a bit disrespectful in tone. A bit sarcastic. Though I do not follow the biblical doctrine of creation etc...I would not have been so sarcastic in tone. It serves to piss off people (believers) who otherwise might have listened to reason.

@matreyia Agreed! I tried to persuade my student not to follow this path, but alas...he could not resist. Please understand that his environment is filled with many intolerant people who believe this story literally...it was a form of release for him, but I urged him to stay focused on the parallels with many other early literatures. I thought Buddhists were supposed to be honest. Just the Bible & the Sumerians?
I don't think so. See how many cultures have legends about the Great Flood.
(btw, all Jews know the creation story/Adam&Eve are allegory and have never said anything different.)
See the other cultures stories here:

@ArachnesNeedle Well...I agree! This is the work of my student, and I warned against the polemic and that it is kind of a linebacker beating up a baby to pick on Bronze Age thinkers the way he did. Still, he was and is so excited about it...He makes these points he makes...but I won't argue that it is incomplete at best...but it did make me laugh at points...how about you?
