The Appalachian melody of Amazing Grace played on the Double Barrel or Drone Native American flute by Randy Granger. The Drone note is the octave, similar to what a bagpipe does.
A version of this song and an original melody sandwiching Amazing Grace is on my CD Cloudwalker and called East Wind/Amazing Grace. The CD is available at www.cdbaby.com/cd/randygranger or per song/album at iTunes, or Amazon.com. I hope it brings some joy. I volunteer my music in Hospice and Hospital settings and this songs seems to bring comfort to the dying, healing and their loved ones.
the story of the Song Amazing Grace is pretty moving. A slave owner and captain of a slave ship realizes one day that slavery is wrong and has a conversion so to speak. He pens the lyrics to the existing melody as an act of redemption--we all seem to need that once in a while.
Amazing Grace is also the unofficial national anthem of the Cherokee Nation. during the forced repatriations from their ancestral lands to Oklahoma by the U.S. Government thousands of native peoples were forcibly marched over 2,000 miles and over 4,000 died along the way. This became known as the Trail of Tears. They were not allowed to stop and attend to their dead so instead would quietly sing Amazing Grace as a way to honor the passing. It has been translated into many native languages including the native form of sign language. It is really beautiful to watch.
May you walk in beauty.

Beautiful, I'm downloading your album off of iTunes as I write this. What key is your drone flute in? Do you make your own flutes? You're creating a sound that is simply amazing....It makes me want to learn!

thank you so much! this drone is in F# made by earth tone flutes. I don't yet make my own flutes--too many good makers already. ;-) I hope you are inspired to take up this incredible instrument.

Hauntingly beautiful. That is so great that you volunteer your time, to those in their last hours. Music calms the soul. I'm 37- so I'd like to reserve you to play when I die hopefully in 40 years or so. Thanks for the background information- very meaningful and beautiful. Gave me chills!
