This aired Wednesday, January 13, 2010 on KBCI Channel 2 in Boise and was produced by them. It's not the most even-handed story in terms of tone, though the facts are given: Big Tree Arts got over $3,000 from the state of Idaho in 2009. That money goes toward educational outreach including workshops attached to slams. What isn't stated in this report is that most of the state money goes toward workshops with Hays Shelter Home and Frank Church High School, both focusing on work with at-risk students. Competing poets do not receive prize money from our state allotment. Prizes come from donations and door money.
