This is the first piece in a liturgical musical drama that I'm writing about the Seven Deadly sins. I wanted to write a piece in 7/8, but I dind't know what, and the 7 immediately clicked with the 7 deadly sins. Written for my composition class.
Mallory Gilchrist, Soprano and David Taylor, piano.
Text:
1. Rage is an awful sin
It burns all around you, foe or kin!
Beware of rage--
its fire will burn you every day.
2. Rage is no passing craze
in books by every author - on every page!
Be scared of rage--
its power will bind you in a cage.
Chorus:
Swing low, sweet chariot
to carry me from the depths of hell.
Deliver me from valley of the shadow of death.
3. Rage just won't go away
if you give in once, oh, you'll pay!
Just say no to rage--
or you'll be serving as its slave.
Swing low, sweet chariot
to carry me from the depths of hell.
Deliver me from the fire and power and the misery that is rage!
