this reminds me of my grandmothers funeral. She was a Goldstar mother. They had the joint forces honor guard there, and a full army honor guard. I'll never forget it. She was buried next to her husband(my Grandfather whom I never met) who served his entire career with the Army.

every time i think of the "bush" wars and i get upset with what i consider a waste of such brave young life, something like this snaps me back to reality. and that reality is: these people are volunteers, and they paid for it with the only lives they will ever live here on earth. now, i don't care if you or i agree with the current politics of war or not, these people deserve this and more. i have veterans in my family, too. i am also prior service. what a great honor for those defending us.

@PRwendy First of all, my condolences to you and your family. I served at the Navy Ceremonial Guard and I can vouch for any service that the deceased and family are afforded the utmost respect. I once conducted a funeral at the same time as an Army funeral, I waited for the Army to finish Taps before I made the call for the Navy to fire their three volley, ensuring that neither funeral was compromised..
My dad was buried at Arlington yesterday (he died on Nov. 6). It was the most moving, dignified, honorable service I ever attended. They treat every single service person like they are the most important person in the world, regardless of rank. I am so proud of my dad and all veterans like him (he was a WW2 and Korean veteran, with Purple Heart, oak leaf cluster and Bronze Star)

My father, a WWII and Korean War naval aviator will be buried at Arlington on 1 July 2010... with the full military honors he deserves... He was a Navy Cross recipient. The ceremony is unbelievably moving to all who have had the honor of witnessing one. May all our heroes rest in peace. One must always remember that a nation that forgets it's heroes will itself soon be forgotten. May we always honor and remember those who have fought for our freedom.

@ltbosslady It's truly an unbelievable ceremony. I'll never forget it and it's something my father always wanted.

Thanks for posting this. My Dad is going to be laid to rest in Arlington the end of this month. He was also a POW (Japanese) from WWII. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. I hope you are reliving and enjoying the memories you have of your Dad. We all appreciate his service. May he rest in peace.

I'm so sorry about your father. He will be laid to rest with a service you will never forget as long as you live. Thank you for his service as well. At least they both came home when so many others didn't. We can be thankful for that.
