This is the first part of a walk through an measurement of what is a log house believed to have been built, at least in part, beginning in late 1774, following a purchase of the surrounding 311 Ac on "Cattail Run a drain of the Shenandoah River," by John Cowan on 9 Nov 1774. He and his family emigrated to Berkeley County Virginia from Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County West New Jersey Province. He and his wife Mary Russell had three sons; James, John, and David. Old John Cowan died in Apr 1786.
