The Great Central mini-Gala was fated even before it began with the withdrawals of 30777 and 78019. Things became much worse on the Saturday morning when Pitchford Hall was failed. The ever-resourceful GC muddled through with Jinty 47406 standing in for 78019, 48624 taking the driver experience trains during the morning session and the DMU covering the remaining passenger runs.
The weather started well, with bright sunshine, but by lunchtime low-cloud and mist descended to render the conditions less than pleasant.
A trip to Allsop Lane, just south of Loughborough's mainline station, paid dividends with some footage of the returning Vintage Trains Tyseley-Leicester double-headed pannier trip.

  • If you know why was there a TPO carriage on the back of some of the trains?

    Thanks

  • @MrRyan60

    I don't know, I'm afraid

  • There's me at 0:25 waiting for rob to grind the bolt off so we can take the cladding of the 8f boiler

  • @WTPTrust1997

Excellent. Hopefully the 8F will not be out of traffic for too long.

  • Excellent footage Mike, the poor weather added to the atmospheric smoke effects I think and a nice bonus at the end with the two Panniers.

  • @acw71000

Thanks Austin. The weather at this time of the year can have its compensations. The Pannier run fell nicely in with the GCR timetable and we could have taken our shots without losing any GC shots at all if we had taken the risk.

  • @steamontheweb Oh right thanks for the reply anyway :)

  • @robmasterman

    Thanks Bob

We were unlucky with the failures and then the weather closed in to add to our sense of despondency, but at least we got some good steam effects from the locomotives on display.

  • Well done the GCR, a min-Gala maybee but it enabled you capture some great footage Mike......Excellent work as always....Bob
