Earthworm Jim (Genesis) Full Game Speedrun Part 5

Played on an emulator. No savestates or slowdown used. Single segment run played on Normal difficulty. Final time from gaining control to last hit on the final boss is 32:53.

This was a very fun game to run. It has so many different types of gameplay packed into it and even after putting lots of time into it the past several weeks the humor about it never got old. This run is far from perfect, but does showcase some interesting and difficult tricks. I'm very happy with this time.

Part 5

Buttville: Very happy to get through the first part damage free. I could've done a little more free falling, but not too much. The main section of the level has a few mistakes in it, including the single most glaring mistake in the run where I miss the second hook over the first hive. Everything else before the boss is pretty minor. I sacrifice a few seconds for caution around the worms that come from the background (for those who don't know, they're one hit kills) and to set up the last swing after the first worm section (screw it up and I'm dead). Do nail a few good timesavers though. I get up the vertical whipping section after the checkpoint as quick as possible and shortly thereafter do a damage boost of some spikes to skip the lower platform which nets a few seconds. The miniboss went fine, and I had enough health to skip the power up to the far right afterwards. Once your on the last platform the final boss is basically a joke if you're sitting on 3k+ ammo. I did miss with one of my plasma shots which cost a few seconds, but other than that no complaints. Cue the ending!

So I'm trying to beat this game without losing a life, but there are two problems I'm going to run into, Snot a Problem pt 3, which I think I'll be able to do. The next problem are those fucking hookwork things, specifically the part where you have to jump on three spheres and avoid three of them. What is their pattern? Any tips on this?

@MonsieurMookie I think the strat in the vid speaks for itself. Kill the ones you can, and for the ones you can't if you jump right after the go back into the background you can get by. You can try just blazing through, but that gets you dead more often than not.

i think he use macro controller, i just try it myself and it make the spike part really easy.

Nope, just lots of practice and a keyboard with no special button binds.

I will say I do usually get hit through there at least once, usually right at the end. Very happy that I didn't in this run as it looks really smooth.

You do know that if you whip the queen its a one hit kill.... lololololol there goes that speed run bud :P

kudos to you man! i know it took some hard work and getting your ass whooped repeatedly to get things right. i`m still going to need lots more practice if i want a speed-run or a no death run. that is, if i can ever pull it off. solid work!
