Set in rural Louisiana during the Depression, this heartfelt story tells of a sharecropper family struggling to overcome adversity. After stealing to feed his family, Nathan is sent to a prison camp. In their fight for survival, his determined wife and their eldest son hold the family together. Once the boy becomes an adult, he searches for his father but instead discovers manhood. Considered ground-breaking for its time, SOUNDER is a rare film experience moving people of all races.

The most timeless film ever made. The whole cast, even Sounder, deserved a truckload of awards Everything about it was great..the soundtrack featured Lightnin' Hopkins & Taj Mahal. Taj acts well in it. It's painful to watch the way African Americans were treated and even harder to believe that this was portraying events only a mere 70 yrs ago. It still shakes me when the dog gets shot.

I saw the new disney version. I felt like crying when the dog got shot. I almost did but a relative of mine is 7 years old and I didn't want him to think i'm a woose XD
