Love it! :')

One of my first 45's ever, during the 'Summer OF Love", I will never forget this song and the memories it evokes....

Fantastic song. Heard it on a compilation album when I was a kid. Remembered the singer forgot the name of the song. Searched for years and downloaded dozens of his songs before I finally found it. Eureka.

Awesome! The album "Jill" is from—"Listen!"—is now finally now on CD with both the STEREO AND MONO MIXES on Now Sounds. All of the tracks are sourced FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES. No transfers from vinyl! Great liner notes by Andrew Sandoval featuring the participation of GARY LEWIS himself! Check out the CD at nowsounds.co.uk

I LOVED this song when it came out!
I can see me now, age 4, staring at the 45 as it went round and round, humming to it!~
man. Those flutes. I used to think they were some kind of bird or owl back then

Yes, I remember listening to "Jill" in the summer of '67 with my little black transistor radio I had received the previous Christmas. It was a medium-sized hit where I was growing up, in Oshkosh, WI. I remember thinking it had a haunting melody at the time, especially when Lewis would sing those octave phrases in that part of the song. By the same token, it was a bit of a sad-sounding song too, but I really liked it.

Thank you thank you thank you!
In the late 60's and early 70's I played this song to death in my bedroom. Then one day, it disappeard. I did tend to play records over and over so much you could say I had my very own Top 40 station in my room. So maybe someone higher up in the house felt it was time the song was removed from the playlist lol
I have not heard this song close to 40 years or so. No joke!

I know what you mean. There's certain vinyl 45's I remember playing quite a bit as well. I believe I still have the vast majority of them. I particularly remember the first three 45's I bought: "Reflections" by the Supremes, "Ode To Billie Joe" by Bobbie Gentry, and I think "Anything Goes" by Harper's Bazaar. I played Reflections so much, it got brittle and cracked!

Thanks for posting this wonderful song! I've always loved this one. I think it's their best.

You're quite welcome. I try digging up gems from the past that may have not necessarily made the top 10. "Jill" is from an era when I was just getting interested in listening to AM radio of the day in the 1960's, and buying the 45 rpm singles shortly thereafter.
