Audio-only recording. My pre-VCR days. Recorded on an audio cassette with a microphone up to the TV speaker, August 25, 1983. Received in Philadelphia 365 miles DX with an indoor antenna. I provided the color bars for video.

  • Actually I think what happend when the station went to the test pattern instead of the high pitched tone that stations often do they were airing feed from a local radio station

  • No no no! I recorded it off a TV with a tape recorder. I didn't have a VCR yet. I provided the color bars 25 years later for this YouTube video.

  • What Year Did You Get The VCR?

  • Memorial Day 1985.

  • Nothing but a test pattern? Weird.

  • Please read the video description for explanation.

  • @oldshowfanatic77 I remember when I was little, seeing a blue '12' zooming in with a black background.

  • I've searched for the video of this sign-off for years, it's the greatest TV sign-off ***ever*** - if anyone turns this video up it would be a spectacular YouTube treasure.

  • where,s the sound of color bars?

  • But when America sang "Lonely People", it showed video footage of the Moon Landing, the planting of the flag, and the departure. At the end of the video, it showed a baby in a crib, with a sillouete of the parents standing over it, panning out as the song ended. Memories of my childhood. *sigh*

  • I remember this as a child (born and raised in East NC). I remember while the narrator was announcing the station information, there was this gigantic white "12" that stretched from the top to the bottom of the screen on a black background. Scared me as a child for some odd reason. LOL.

  • i am amazed that you were able to get that kind of reception with an indoor antenna, out here you're doing fine if you can get reception in the mountains with an outdoor antenna

  • My gosh, I grew up with WCTI. When I was a little boy, I was jumping up and down with excitement, waiting for "American Bandstand" to come on.

  • Wow pretty impressive you were able to recive this from almost 400 miles away with an Indoor Antana

  • lmao used 2 live there, Dallas now ;D
