The skin is the largest organ of the human body and it has two primary functions: it protects your body from the environment and it retains essential body fluids such as blood and water. Your skin is the barrier between your body and the world.

For years, dermatologists thought that the outermost layer of the skin was lifeless, made up of only dead cells. The top layers of skin lose moisture, and as a result, older skin has a drier and more dehydrated appearance. Not surprisingly, wrinkles can appear.
