In this 1971 interview in Salt Lake City, Utah five-time land speed record holder Craig Breedlove talks about his plans to build a rocket engine car to break the sound barrier and challenge the land speed record. This version of the Spirit of America was never realized because the project was eventually shut down due to government rocket fuel restrictions. The footage comes from the KUTV News Collection (A0303). This item is protected by copyright. Thanx for the interesting story! One cannot win them all.. But still I find all those stories, documentaries , see the old cars and all just fantastic! Have you met Craig? (and Steve Fosset sounds familiar. Who is he? I forgot)

he ended up building it, wreck it in 1996 at 630 mph, re built it ran it in 1997, wrecked it after sucking a bolt into the engine, and then the brits came along at av the same time and broke not only the record but the sound barrier.... me dad worked on craigs car for a few years, but with only having one engine it gave off a lot of torq, which i think happend when it rolled on its side in 1996, Steve fossett bought it, and after he crashed its now up for sale at 3 million dollars
