This is a 914 Rotax turbo charged aircraft engine with 200 hours TTSN.
The owner of this engine was involved in accident about 2 years ago and the Searey that this engine was mounted on was damaged beyond repair in a accident on a freshwater lake in Florida. The engine was under water for a day while the aircraft was being recovered. We have had a number of water plane upsets where the engine's have been submerged but we have found that if it's freshwater the engine can be dried out and if started right away have no permanent damage to them. The engine was removed from a freshwater lake shipped to Lockwood Aviation a Rotax service center in Sebring Florida where it was started and was determined the engine could be put back into service in aircraft. The owner asked to have this engine stand built so the engine could be maintained until he decides what he wants to do with it. The engine can be run on this stand with a prop installed. New price on the this engine as of Feb 16, 2011 is $15,000 including stand and new turbo controller from Bully Start.

  • how do you tune these carbs?

  • isn't this the engine that was used for the record breaking altitude trike flight over the Kilamanjaro?

  • sir, how much does a brand new 912 (80hp) and 914 cost?

  • @quadcatfly While there's only a 15 hp difference between the 912 and 914 at sea level, that difference becomes about 30 hp at 10,000 ft. The 914s utility is mainly for those flying in the mountains, and has nothing to do with flying faster. An extra 30 hp in the small aircraft these are stuck in makes a helluva difference in climb rate.

I think the 912 sounds more squeaky than 914 - possibly due to turbocharger on 914

  • @quadcatfly you're lookin at more moving parts and more work for 15 hp. It will give you what maybe an extra 5 knots.

  • @Avatar230594 nor any performance difference....

  • are these engines injected?

  • that sounds beautiful! :)

about how much fuel does it eat?

(at ideal, cruising RPM, full throttle, etc)

  • apart ffrom the whistle it has nor real sound difference from the 912
