The SpeakEasy; University Heights, BX

The birthplace of Hip-Hop never fails when it comes to providing an inviting and inspiring energy for The SpeakEasy. Hosted by renowned, NYC based artist, Marthalicia and her amazingly talented family this installment had visual contributions like no other SpeakEasy. With live painting from Flor Mancha, Nelson "Host" Santiago, Demostina, Broke MC, SpazeCrafte One, Andy "Solo" Estevez, André Trenier, and Crystal Clarity and a love inducing performance by songstress Atiyya the night seemed to have hit its max potential. But, no one expected to be sharing space with the likes of Hip-Hop legends emcee Kurious and acclaimed producer Pete Rock! Their appearance combined with the warm vibes of all who attended reaffirmed the purpose and intent of The SpeakEasy movement. Our culture, our art, and our lives are moved by our actions, in our communities, and with our collective efforts, not by a venue, market, or campaign. Of course New Rap Order provided the staples, with tasty treats whipped up by NRO's own TreZure Empire and tunes by the great DJ Metaphysic who is still with us in spirit. A special thank you to Marthalicia her brothers, family and of course her unforgettable son Wesly.
