ABOUT:
This is using Windows XP on a laptop, using Photoshop CS4 to edit a photo of a friend--provided by that same friend. Thanks Crystal!

This is just a run through of what is possible to do within Adobe's Photoshop, how synthetic beauty—beauty found on magazines, the media, the Internet and on television can be easily created. This whole Photoshop session took around two hours and 47 minutes, it took TWO DAYS to POST this video on YouTube.

POST-PRODUCTION TECH DETAILS:
There is a bit of lagging (don't know if most of you will notice) due to the computer handling both Photoshop CS4 and the Cam programme which runs at a resolution of 1280x800. By the way, Xvid is a great compressor for these sorts of things.
It took me two Windows XP machines and one vista machine in order to finally upload this on the web. It took Sony Vegas, Windows Movie Maker and QuickTime Pro to some extent. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy this video. Though it may not be one of the "best" floating around in YouTube, it is merely an insight into what paid professionals get to do before any photo of a celebrity is published.

Any comments, criticisms on my technique, appraisals, questions and , concerns, et cetera, are most welcome—retarded comments will be ignored.

*The whole 'stars' at the end were unecessary, it was essentially a tribute to my mom who always adds estrogen elements to her images for Quiceañeras.

*In the video, the final picture kind of looks rather too fake (the 'porcelain' face). But on the picture itself, you can see that I kept some freckles so that it wasn't too obviously removed.

What I used within Photoshop:
Variations
Apply Image
Photo Filter (warming)
Liquefy
Warp
Brightness & Contrast
Hue & Saturdation
Curves
Marquee Tool
Spot Healing Brush
Dodge Tool
Clone Tool
Patch Tool (VERY useful)
Medium
High Pass
LAYERS (very important to always keep layers, I hate flattening and I never do) [you can see that at times in the movie, there's more action in the "layers" tab rather than on the image itself] :P

  • Damn... Great job! but umm is it me or was she gorgeous even before you changed it lol. Cs4 program is so annoying so much tools -.-

  • Haha, thanks!

You're right, she didn't need Photoshop to enhance how she looks, she's naturally radiant :P

But I decided to make the video to show what is done in the "professional" world of magazine/video advertising, her long red hair looks even more awesome in real life! Lol.

CS4 does have a bunch of tools, it was intimidating to me to see so many options, but it translates into more control over what you do in the photo, photoshop tutorials online will help! (they've done so to me, immensly)

  • i was wondering what command you used for the grids to make the eyes bigger? at 1:56

    thanks! =D

  • First you make the selection using the lasso tool, or magnetic lasso tool or any other tool to select the area you want to modify, then go to Edit > Transform > Warp

Just be careful, because you'll essentially be "ripping" the image, so I suggest you duplicate your image before using this.

If you have any problems let me know!
