Landmacht oefening "Cold Response", Noorwegen

et een dikke honderd man oefent een landmachtpeloton deze week nog in het besneeuwde landschap rond het Noorse Bardufoss. De eerste twee van de in totaal vijf weken aanwezigheid boven de Poolcirkel werden benut voor koudweertraining.

De Nederlandse militairen van het 103 ISTAR Bataljon kregen hulp van Noorse collegas. Die voorzagen de gasten van onder meer speciale schoenen, overschoenen, thermisch ondergoed, sokken en pet. Een keer werd overnacht in een tent en eenmaal in een zelf gegraven sneeuwhol.

Het Nederlandse bataljon vaart onder de vlag van 101 Gevechtssteun Brigade (101 GSB). Na de koudweertraining sloot de groep aan bij de internationale oefening Cold Response. Daaraan doen 8500 militairen uit 16 landen mee.

It's Dutch, and it basicly means that English is spoken in a lot of former British colonies! As a result of the British expansion during the 19th century,

i said they conquerd a lot of land in the 19th (!!!!) century, so that's 1800 till 1899!

and i didn't know that french was the first world language untill the end of WW2.
