In Part 5, the body count system is condemned as it means you, yourself are expendible in an immoral war. Systemically, the U.S. military detached from humanity and classical military professional understanding was hell-bent on the machine war, German Nazi-like approach to war that missed how to win on the moral plane. By defoliating millions of acres of crop land and disrupting villages based on land held by families for generations were sure to infuriate them into the rebel VC side. Forced urbanization of rural Vietnamese into factories or black market consumer suppliers alienated much of the South Vietnamese such that they would be willing to even fight for the corrupt puppet government we were propping up.

James William Gibson author of: The Perfect War: Technowar in Vietnam gives the most amazing and enlightening talk ever on the origins and misconduct of the Vietnam war.
