People's Postcode Lottery 'Summer Jumbo' winner S75 1HW - Barnsley - 12 July 2009

July 12th saw eleven lucky Barnsley neighbours scoop their share of £250,000 at the People's Postcode Lottery fun-packed Postcode Jumbo event held at the Millers Inn Water Mill Court, Dearne Hall Road.

Most of the winners, from the S75 1 postcode sector, took home cheques worth nearly £15,000 each from the charity lottery's biggest prize pot while a stunned Polly Johnson (39) won the Street Prize of a life-changing £80,000!

The fun began at noon when the Barnsley audience was treated to a performance by local band The Capitals.

Players weren't the only winners on the day though, as Judie revealed that People's Postcode Lottery players have now raised an amazing £2million for English charities.

Geoff Newiss, Director of Policy and Research for Missing People, accepted the cheque on behalf of the charities that have benefitted from this great amount.

Geoff said: "The work Missing People does is crucial. Players in the North of England have so far raised over £71,000 for Missing People, and this support can do so much - last year we received 90,000 calls for help in England alone, and were currently appealing for more than 350 vulnerable missing people."

It was soon time make some players a lot richer though and the Barnsley residents were enraptured as Judie read out the names of the lucky sector winners. Ten delighted players walked away with cheques ranging from £7,373 to £29,490.

A visibly emotional David Wooffindin won almost £30,000 and said: "It is wonderful. Our 36th wedding anniversary is coming up so well certainly celebrate in style. A holiday is the first thing we will treat ourselves to."

Lisa Ogley was one of seven sector winners to pick up a £14,745 cheque, saying: "This is fantastic. I thought we would each get about £500! I go on holiday in a couple of weeks and was hoping for some spending money but this is amazing. I promised my friends that if I won over £1,000 I would treat them to a day at the races well definitely be going now!"

Finally is was time for the big reveal - the full winning postcode of S75 1HW!

Champagne corks popped for Polly Johnson, who has only played the Peoples Postcode Lottery for a month. She said was thrilled to win an amazing £80,434: I only subscribed last month and couldnt be happier that I chose to take two tickets!"

Polly was joined by her family; partner Steve and their four children Ben, Elizabeth, Heather and Emily all of whom were stunned and emotional by the win. I would have been over the moon with a thousand pounds this is totally unbelievable! said a delighted Polly.
