In this video I answer the question: Instead of legalizing gay marriage, what if each state de-legalized straight marriage? Why after all, should the state define what many consider to be a private, religious question?

  • This video got the gears between my ears spinning.

Since marriage is a religious institution, and baptism is also a religious institution; why do we tolerate getting the state permission, in the form of a license, to get married, while the majority of us would be outraged at the idea of a baptism license?

Churches issue baptismal certificates that are 100% legal documents; why not allow them to issue marriage certificates, keep the state out of it, and be done with the whole thing?

  • @MrPloppy1 absolutely brilliant point!

  • I recently reached the conclusion of privatizing marriage on my own and had never heard the position articulated in the debate. I found this brilliant video while searching for others that supported my position. Such a clear and well articulated presentation, thank you.

  • I support marriage being a private affair between the two individuals; their families; church, and community. What could be done is that if any two adults by ceremony or written contract/covenant establish a domestic relationship, it would be given legal recognition with the various rights/responsibilities attached. The state would recognize the private contract and not judge whether it is a "marriage" or "domestic partnership"

  • Preach it BROTHER!

  • Marriage violates separation of church and state.

  • No divorce. No regulation and lawyers to regulate personal relationships. No domestic abuse laws neccessary. Just leave. Marriage has no legal significance it remains strictly a religious cereminy for those want it.

  • I agree conpletely. state offiatied marriage amounts to the institutionalisation of love, in my opinion.
