This song was originally done by Jerry Lee Lewis in 1958 and was covered by Moon Mullican. Moon was a major influence on Jerry Lee and Moon said Jerry Lee was the best singer piano artist ever too and the two of them have the definitive versions!

New information beyond my previous post here: Moon Mulligan seems to have recorded "Fools Like Me" in 1962 at Clement Studio, Beaumont, issued as Hall 1914, which is the label and number shown in the photo on the video. The song is also credited to song-writers Clement and Maddux. This sounds like Sun Records so it appears Moon was covering Jerry Lee's version?

This appears to be the original version of "Fools Like Me". Jerry Lee Lewis had a version on the 'B'-side of 'High School Confidential'. At least one Rockabilly act also had the song in their set in the 1950s and the Beatles are reputed to have sung it in either Hamburg and/or the Cavern. Either way, another Liverpool group who played with the Beatles at the Cavern, The Merseybeats (later the Merseys, I believe) recorded the song in the early19 60s: it was my first introduction to the song.
