I climbed this mountain a few years ago, it's a 1400 metre height gain from the car park at mountain creek to the summit. Took me 4 hrs to get to top. I then went a few km's along the top of the plateau to another cairn where there were suberb views looking directly over Mt Beauty township.

We took the staircase spur which is the most difficult, next time we will try the eskdale spur, i think its a little longer but less steep (unless you have a 4WD, then you can drive along mountain creek road to cut down on some walking).
These are the best views ive ever seen, from here you can see over all the other mountains as far as the eye can see, looking over the staircase and eskdale spur.

hey guys - sorry i didnt see these.
Yep we made it to the summit - that was basically at the top, just 100m to the top of that hill was the summit.
We didnt carry anything except a jacket and water, we went up and down in a day. Next time we will go a little more prepared though, and perhaps bring a tent so that we can enjoy it more and camp on the mountain. Would love to go in winder perhaps this year. But yeah, carrying stuff really weighs you down, it makes it soooo much tougher.

this was last year at easter. Yep this was about 100 metres from the summit. I actually want to go again in a week or two if possible.. with the snow. Dont know if that will happen. We got out alive. We were not so fit, took us about 6 hours up.. 2 hours down. Started at 11am.. got back to the car at like 8pm.

sorry mate, i pressed remove comment, instead of reply. But yeah - it is i guess more like 5 hours of hell.. but the biggest fear is getting back on time before dark rather than actually getting there.. but it does feel insumountable. The last 2 or so hours walking back is easy.. but quite hard on the legs sorenesswise.

If you are taking the staircase spur, we found water in the tank at the hut.. otherwise we'd have been out of water. Try to start as early as possible, dont start at 11am like we did.
