(I am not the creator of the video but I can clarify some things)
When creating the VM make the VM compatible with workstation 5 and check the ESX checkbox.
when editing the vmx file put
ethernet0.virtualdev = "e1000"
ethernet0.connectionType = "bridged"
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = TRUE
monitor_control.vt32 = TRUE
monitor.virtual_exec = "hardware"
after, ethernet0.present = "TRUE"
