this movie changed my life

I believe the main character in this movie is NOT lucid dreaming, merely believes himself to be dreaming a dream he cannot awake from. When in actuality he is not dreaming, he is dead and in the inbetween world of spirit ~ the people he meets there appear to try to give him clues about the nature of existence inorder to prepare him for the ultimate knowledge of his own death, which is symbolized in the end after coming to a understanding about reality when he then floats up into the infinite :0)

This may have been the best film I have every seen. A true masterpiece....an inspiration if you will.

Worth considering (though there's some debate) that there's some speculation that the human pineal gland naturally produces an extremely powerful psychoactive compound called DMT, which is released at birth and during REM sleep. Also... (drumroll) the theory is that the brain floods its reserves of DMT immediately before death.

It's usually how I imagine purgatory-style plots in fiction.

That said, Waking Life was probably designed to be pretty ambiguous. Theories are fun, though.

one thing i noticed is that the male actors are so much more fluid with their lines. Julie Delpy is an exception; her acting is absolutely amazing! Not being sexist, just an observation, which is very accurate.
