David and Amy Sumner (James Marsden and Kate Bosworth), a Hollywood screenwriter and his actress wife, return to her small hometown in the deep South to prepare the family home for sale after her father's death. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, including Amy's ex-boyfriend Charlie (Alexander Skarsgård), leading to a violent confrontation.

@hellcat19832 So it's one of those movies where midway through you're kind of hoping that a building falls on all of the main characters and then the words THE END flash on screen? :-D

P.S. I wish I could take credit for that one (that's from a Roger Ebert review of another movie), but I know what you mean. There are movies like that where you pretty much find all of the characters to be thoroughly obnoxious and unlikeable.

@MrJAngAmAngA I agree, if you're going to remake a movie then at least do something a little bit different, make it more current (i.e. more relevant to our times) or add some type of unexpected twist or something. Otherwise what's the point?
