  • @joejar77 Danny is the son who has to leave and this is the lament of the parent left behind fearful of never seeing him again before he/she dies (originally written from the mother's perspective it's as commonly sung by men now). It was written by an Englishman but has become inextricably linked with Irish emigration. Although there are so many awful cheesy versions around sung well it's amazingly powerful

  • I am working on this song right now. When I learned the true meaning of it from my voice instructor, I got a big chill down my spine. This great piece is meant to be sung with emotion, and great feeling.

  • @dalesgas The original song was called "Eily Dear" but was later changed by a Scotsman to "Danny Boy" and used to recruit the Irish into WW1, the tune is very old and called "Londonderry Air" which is a tune used to many songs and dates back to the 17th century. The most most recent song sang to this tune was called "You Raise Me Up", Londonderry Air is also the unoffical anthem of Northern Ireland. In the original "Eily " is the wife of the English writer Weatherly.

  • @WeeMentalAmb GTFO bitch!
