http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/young-at-heart The true story of the final weeks of rehearsal for the Young@Heart Chorus in Northampton, MA, whose average age is 81, and many of whom must overcome health adversities to participate. Their music is unexpected, going against the stereotype of their age group, performing songs, for example, by James Brown and Sonic Youth. Although they have toured Europe and sang for royalty, this account focuses on preparing new songs, not an easy endeavor, for a concert in their home town, which succeeds in spite of several real heart breaking events.

YOUNG@HEART premieres January 12, 2010 on Independent Lens, a weekly series airing on PBS. Hosted by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the acclaimed series showcases powerful and innovative independent films. Presented by ITVS, Independent Lens is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide. Visit the Web site for more: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/young-at-heart

  • To call The Young @ Heart Chorus inspiring would be an understatement. I was deeply moved by their determination and their passion for living life. What Bob Cilman and the chorus are doing is epic, kudos to them all.

  • For 20th Century Fox to remove the original video of this group, which went viral, just to make a buck is a travesty. You may create something new and also wonderful, but will never replace the power and the message of the youtube video in a movie. To remove it is merely selfish.

  • oh this is great

  • Very cool!

  • Fantastic Chorus and outstanding documentary! 5 awesome stars!

  • After my mother died five years ago, my Dad took up karaoke! It surprised all of us. He can't sing all that well, but neither can half the people who get up to sing at the club he goes to (they are mostly retirees, like him).

  • I have seen this documentary several times. So touching... still makes me cry a bit every time. Just love it.
