Rep. Andy Meisner (D-Ferndale) recently sat down with me to speak about his newest piece of legislation in Michigan, repealing the ban on Stem Cell Research and why it's a great thing for Michigan.
Andy plays with the truth. Human embryonic stem cell (SC) research isn't illegal in MI, Levin & Stabenow voted NAY on expansion of federal funding (S.30). Bush's executive order helped, by declaring arrested embryos 'naturally dead', MI would have access to far more than the clinic embryos 'available for research' (only 275 may give hES), as 1/2 of IVF created embryos arrest the 1st wk, yet yield normal SCs at same rate). Patients shouldn't be pawns political games.
U of M has a human embryonic stem cell research center. It CAN'T be illegal. What a fibber.
